The Tooth Fairy Will Be Visiting Tonight

So, it's been a couple of weeks since I discovered that John's tooth was loose.  In fact, the permanent tooth was already growing in.  We actually found out that it was loose because John was complaining about a pain in his gums.  We saw the new one coming through just behind the original.  It was wiggling a bit and everyone told me to ignore it and leave it alone.  I was tempted to just push it out like my mother used to do when we were younger.

Anywho, John just kept playing with it and wiggling it when he had a chance.  He was playing in the playground this afternoon when it popped out after a few wiggles.  Can you believe it??  He's so excited to place his tooth under his pillow.  The tooth fairy is going to make an appearance later tonight.  Maureen thinks the tooth fairy will leave a Sacajawea dollar.  We'll see if that comes true.

Ars Pro Artis

While John was playing remote controlled helicopter (one of his birthday presents), Nicholas was having fun of his own.  He was doing sidewalk chalk art.  As you can see, he really gets into his art and got more chalk on him than on the sidewalk.  Thankfully, I didn't see it.  I would not have been pleased.  Still, he does look like quite the industrious artist with the chalk marks on his face.

Happy Birthday JDG

Sunday morning started out quite nicely.  Nicholas rolled into our room about 6 AM and didn't make too much noise.  John rolled in about 6:45 and was in quite a nice mood.  He was rather pleasant.  Nicholas walked over to John and gave him birthday hug and kiss.  It was quite touching.  John asked for his special birthday breakfast, ice cream.  He was quite kind and decided to share his special breakfast with Nicholas.  So, they both benefited from the special day.

Since his party was later in the day, John was quite anxious to head over to Grammy's house for some fun.  It was several hours away and we still had to go pick up a couple of things.  On our drive over to Hansen's, we drove by Tom Bergin's which was closing that day.  John was sad that he'd never get to go, but he got over it pretty quickly because we'd be at Hansen's very soon.  When Maureen walked out with his cake, he was quite pleased.  He had blue letters, white frosting, and balloons.

As we headed over to Grammy's to drop off the cake, we decided it might be best if we dropped the boys off and continued our errands.  They were more than happy to stay at Grammy's and play "Town" with all the Fisher Price Little People sets from the seventies that Grammy still has.  John is quite meticulous in his "Town" planning and makes elaborate little cities.  We picked up the rest of the supplies and we were ready to GO!!!

The kids at John's party had fun in the bounce house.  For the most part, they stayed in the bounce house unless there was something going on like cake or the pinata.  There was one casualty in the bounce house.  One of the guests got a rather nasty scratch on his chest, but he survived.  He's a tough guy.

Meanwhile, John couldn't decide if it was the best day ever or the worst day ever.  I think he was just a little overwhelmed and wanted everyone to enjoy the day.  He was particularly upset that he wasn't going to break the pinata.  We made sure that he "broke" the pinata!

In all, it was a nice day.  Everyone had a good time.  And, the boys slept well after their exciting day.

Hey Baby, It's the 4th of July

After a nice barbeque at Grammy's house, we headed home in anticipation of the fireworks show.  Which fireworks show you ask?  Basically, any show that was going on in the City of Los Angeles.  Last year, we learned that you could head up to the roof of our building and see the shows.  We have a 360 degree view of every show that's going on up to the hills.  It's pretty spectacular.  Technically, we aren't supposed to go up to the roof, but everyone does it.

This year, the boys had a few of their building friends join us for the viewing.  We took glow sticks and an impromtu dance party broke out.  Don't worry.  They never got close to the edge, so there was never any danger.  A good time was had by all aside from the poor souls living on the top floor who had little dancers beating down on their ceilings!

Early Birthday Boy

Our John's fifth birthday is coming up on Sunday, but we picked up his birthday present just a littl early this year.  We figured it was easier to get it a couple of days early than to try to pick it up the actual weekend.  He's been so excited about the bike and he took to it as if he were a BMX PRO!!

Celebrating the 4th of July on the 3rd of July

Yesterday, we headed over to the boys school for their 4th of July parade.  I took the day off thinking it was a bit of a program, but it just turned out to be a 10-minute march and song routine.  They even got to eat popsicles at the end of the program.  I'm not complaining.  Plus, it was good to see the boys singing the songs they had been practicing.

John has been singing patriotic songs for the last month or so.  Nicholas would join in every so often in his singing, but we all know that John is the more musical of the two.  His particular favorite is "Grand Old Flag".  It reminded me of singing that song back in school programs at Our Lady of Peace.

Nicholas didn't participate in the march because he was a little too shy.  John was a real trooper unlike the Christmas parade where he ran away and cried in the corner.  As you can see, he really enjoyed the singing and marching.  Plus, the boys got a firecracker popsicle at the end of the school day.

BTW, if you look closely, you'll see a note on the video about John's girlfriend.  She's a sweet little girl.

Nature Boy

Our Nicholas is quite a fan of nature.  He loves it so much that he always grabs twigs and branches off the floor and asks us if he can bring them in.  Once in a while, we'll say yes and he brings them in and hides them.  We'll stumble across them at odd times.  Sadly, we didn't let him bring this one up with him.  It was the end of the world to him when we said no.  Tough luck Albro.

Beware

A couple of weeks ago, Maureen and the boys went to lunch with some of their classmates at Tere's on Melrose.  I've neve been there, but they tell me it's good.  Anyway, it was John's idea to go there because he likes to plan events for his group of friends.  As lunch was wrapping up, he said, "I have a good idea.  Let's go over to Rita's house."

Thankfully, Rita's mom was up for a fun visit from those hard partying Gonzalez Brothers.  They even got to share some firecracker popsicles with their hosts.  Personally, I'm more of a fan of the Bomb Pop which they still do sell at Ralph's.
