Oh Boy, He Was Amazing!

As most of you know, Huell Howser died last Sunday.  I was reading TMZ during lunch on Monday when I came across that story.  I immediately exclaimed, "Oh No!  Huell Howser is dead!"  Two of my co-workers were truly saddened by the loss.  The others were nonplussed because they didn't get him.  You really didn't need to get him.  He was who he was and you either loved him or couldn't listen to him.  I must say that I didn't enjoy his show much earlier in my life (much like talk radio on KFI), but as I kept watching, I grew to enjoy his programs immensely (much like KFI).

Anywho, why did I just post that on a blog about the boys?  If you recall, we went to National Train Day at Union Station because of Huell Howser.  He mentioned it on Facebook since he was going to be there and we thought it would be a good idea to take the boys to see the goings on due to John's love of trains (at the time, Nicholas was only 5-months old).  As we entered the place was a madhouse as the Spirit of Troy was playing and those horns were too loud for John.  We headed toward the platforms to see the trains.  John was ever so excited to visit the train platforms and see actual train cars in motion.  As we were leaving, we saw Huell Howser posing for photos with people, so we waited for our turn.  Maureen asked for a photo and mentioned that John, Nicholas, and she were Dockweilers.  He then asked if I wanted a photo and both Maureen and he cajoled me into a photo.  To this day, John will ask about the man in the yellow shirt from the train station.

If not for Huell Howser, I would not have that nice memory of a day at the station.  Thanks Huell.
