Our Visit to Santa

It's been quite some time since I have posted anything on this blog, but today was a great night.  Watch the video for some Christmas fun.

John's First Day at School

I think Maureen has been looking forward to this day more than John has.  She's been prepping for it since the day he was born.  Over the last couple of weeks, John has been vacillating as to whether or not he was excited about school.  His biggest concern was that no one would play with him.  This weekend, he had a few episodes where he was sure that no one would play with him.  We assured him that there would always be someone to play with him since he knew about 1/3 of his classmates from Pre-School.  Anywho, he finally drifted off last night after Maureen told him that everything would be just fine and I started playing some Chet Baker.  When in doubt, play Chet Baker and the little one's drift off to the Kingdom of Nod (The Dreaming, not the place where Cain went after he murdered Abel) in no time.

Being the good mother that she is, Maureen woke up at 5:45 this morning to get ready for the big day.  John woke up between 6 and 6:30 this morning and complained that his alarm didn't go off.  I had to remind him that his alarm was set for 6 AM.  In any event, he was in fine spirits and even composed one of his improtu songs.  It had something to do with the sunshine.  That was a sign that things were going to be good today.

We headed to SBS listening to his favorite music, The Theme to Jaws.  Both he and Nicholas are quite obsessed with the music of John Williams.  I had tried to get them to watch Star Wars a while back, but they didn't want to.  Once they realized that the music of John Williams was in the movies, they thought it would be fun to watch.  Anywho, John walked right in and started interacting with his friends.  Nicholas was a bit upset because he wasn't going to be staying for the day.  I think it hit him harder than John.  We left after a "lovely" school assembly where the backpacks were blessed and all new students were welcomed.

After lunch with some classmates at Pitfire Pizza, we came home to get some rest and do some homework.  John just finished up his homework about 25 minutes ago and he was quite proud of that accomplishment.  Little does he know that it only gets worse.  We won't ruin the grand illusion for a while.  He needs to learn to love school.  He's too young to be jaded about the educational system.

Happy Birthday

It isn't official until tomorrow afternoon, but I thought I'd post this oldie but goodie!

Guess Who Needs Glasses?

It looks like our little man is near sighted, so he'll be wearing some fun glasses from here on out.  Maureen let him pick out the frames he wanted.  I would have steered him toward something a bit less colorful, but she did talk him out of getting the blue goggles.

Mighty Johnny Takes the Field

We signed John up to play tee ball.  Thankfully, he's on a team with many of his classmates.  Game times are decent for the most part, aside from the 8 AM Sunday games.  Each team gets to bat two times and there are no outs.  In other words, everyone wins.  Some of the kids are really intense about the games.  Others just want to play in the dirt.  John is somewhere in between.  He wants to do good, but he also doesn't like standing around for two long.

After two games, I can honestly say I see improvement on the entire team.  They all know where they need to go.  They all wait their turns.  And, they all try to field the ball.  John needs to work a little on his throws, but his coach has said that he's got the fundamentals of fielding down.  He's in good position and is getting far better with his glove.

I asked him if he liked it and he said that he loves baseball because Papi loves baseball.  That boy just loves his Grandfather.  It runs in the family.

Snuggle's Birthday Party

Somehow, Nicholas decided that it was Snuggle's birthday today.  One would think that he'd say Snuggle's birthday were on Christmas Day since that was the day he opened Snuggle up, but he decided otherwise.  Since Thursday evening, Nicholas kept on saying it's Snuggle's birthday on Saturday and we're throwing him a party.  I agreed to cake and a present, but no party.  After all, Snuggle is a member of this family.
